Melissa Borrell Design introduces New Fantasy Shade™ designs on Eco-Friendly fabric


These unusual window shades produce illusive shadows, rendering the impression of a fantasy world outside the window. Inspired by a longing for unusual places, the Fantasy Shades™ encourage you to conceive of an alternate reality outside of your window by producing a scene of cherry blooms, tree branches or even an urban center that you miss. This product is likewise available as a customized design that may be impressed with an image that matches the wants of the customer. They're constructed of an interwoven fabric that screens out adverse ultraviolet rays and heat while still providing natural light into the room.

In the last year, designer Melissa Borrell has attained national and worldwide fame in design circles and has formed a following of dedicated and enthusiastic collectors. Borrell has been designing innovational jewelry for over twelve years and in the past 3 years has added sculptured artwork, wall installations and accoutrements for the home to her accumulation. “My work obscures the differentiations between art and design. In numerous ways there's no deviation for me and I exemplify this by applying the same components and concepts in both my sculptural installations and products.” These products have adopted the form of wall coverings, sculpture, fabric designing, inflammation and home accessories, in addition to as jewelry.

Borrell has produced a number of unusual home interior products in addition to Fantasy Shades™ such as Shadow Bulbs™ as well as large and small scale installation pieces and sculpture. Borrell’s conceptions traverse the lines between sculpture, artwork, style and architecture.

A native-born Houstonian, Borrell has lived on both the East and West coasts. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in French Literature and Studio Art at Tufts University and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston she moved to San Francisco. Self-taught as a designer, Melissa opened up her studio in the Mission district there in 1999. She distributed her jewelry to galleries and museum shops across the nation. In 2005, she got a Master of Fine Arts from Rhode Island School of Design and moved back to Houston to found her company, Melissa Borrell Design, in 2006.
